I never really liked Pocahontas as a child, because...hello?? They never ended up together! John left on a big white boat and Pocahontas chose her country over her love. How could Disney do that? Even in Avatar the stupid main guy reunited with his blue Naavi Princess...
And when Pocahontas 2 came out, I believe I was 11, I rushed to buy the VHS to find out what happened to them. Ce film m'a complètement déstabilisé, je niaise même pas. She goes to England to negociate with the Englishmen and prevent a war, and eventually falls in love with ANOTHER MAN. Very undisney-esque. So from then on, I never liked Pocahontas, if I wanted to watch sad endings I could simply watch movies for adults.
Pocahontas, like Mulan, existed in real life, her story is very interesting and many questions still remain about her.
Sorry to ruin the fun but she was in fact 14 when she met John Smith, and the two were apparently never lovers, the archives never stated so, but yeaaaaaaa it makes things so much more romantic... And she did marry Ralfe (the ugly dude from Pocahontas II, a redhead I think . ugh.) but many historians speculate that she did it as a form of alliance, again, to save her people.
Can you paint with the colors of the wind? Sad. So sad.
Pour une fois, je trouve que la chanson en français est vraiment belle! Je parle de la version québécoise. La version française est bizarre...
ReplyDeleteLes paroles sont tellement significatives et je crois sincèrement que si tout le monde prenait le temps d'écouter la chanson ainsi que ses paroles, la société sera plus compréhensive, gentille, etc. Ma naïveté de petite fille...
"Pourquoi parler ainsi ? N'es-tu pas venu en ami? Et qu'as tu de plus que moi pour tout savoir?" Lorsqu'elle répond à John Smith qui avait utilisé le mot "sauvage" par accident.
"Crois-tu devenir le maitre de tout l'univers? En posant simplement un pied à terre?" Je crois que c'est de là que découle ma haine pour tout ce qui pense tout savoir et qui se croit supérieur aux autres...
"Crois-tu pouvoir imposer vos lois partout? Penses-tu vraiment avoir raison sur tout?" J'adooore!
"Même si tu veux toute la terre tu n'auras que sa poussière." Parce que c'est ça de la terre.
