Nabokov's prose is so beautifully written, it's the kind of book that should be read aloud.  The novel could also easily be one of the most beautiful love stories/tragedies there are, had it not been for the fact that she's friggin 12 when they first have sex.  Humbert Humbert isn't to be trusted as a narrator; he says so himself at the beginning of the book.  But I guess great literature doesn't have to be about great people... and if you read the book until the end you will realize it is not only a tale of pedophile obsession but it really is a love story.

“I looked and looked at her, and I knew, as clearly as I know that I will die, that I loved her more than anything I had ever seen or imagined on earth. She was only the dead-leaf echo of the nymphet from long ago - but I loved her, this Lolita, pale and polluted and big with another man’s child. She could fade and wither - I didn’t care. I would still go mad with tenderness at the mere sight of her face.”

And how charming is this first paperback edition of Lolita?!!
Controversial since its conception, Lolita was rejected by American publishing houses until finally accepted by the avant-garde Olympia Press in Paris and published in a fragile two-volume format.   (found at 7600$ in a Manhattan bookstore. O_O)

Leap Year

Samedi matin je me suis réveillée avec la ferme conviction que j'ai fait une erreur la dernière fois chez Winners.  J'avais trouvé la plus belle jupe verte plissée, et j'ai LAISSÉ PASSER L'OCCASION de l'inviter à venir chez moi....... regrets, regrets.   Sur le coup je me suis laissée intimider par la longueur de la maxi-jupe (après tout elle fait presque toute ma hauteur ha) mais je compte bien réparer mon manque de jugement.  Heureusement pour moi, Cong travaille à Winners, je lui ai donc confié la mission de retrouver ma belle et la conquérir pour moi.

Sur Nordstrom une jupe similaire en soie coute 1314 USD (!%$?&%?)

Psssss 2012 est une année bissextile!!  Est-ce qu'une de vous vas profiter de la vieille tradition irlandaise :D ?  Believe it or not, once in a blue moon I watch romantic comedies by myself (well I'm ALWAYS by myself lolz), and last year I somehow found this movie.  Mon excuse c'est que ça se passe en Irlande, ok??

En fait, c'est vraiment pas si pire!!
(mais je ressens toujours une certaine honte après avoir regardé une comédie romantique, même lorsque personne n'est témoin)

Over the last month, my admiration for foreign students in France grew exponentially.  In my opinion, the process of applying for a French university, regardless of the outcome, deserves a friggin MEDAL.  Award for patience, perseverance and amazing resourcefulness. 

Don't look back, you've probably already cut down a tree by now with all the paperwork.

If I ever see the light at the end of this tunnel, I will publish a strategy guidebook dammit!!

I already have a whole chapter from my past experience:

-How to open a bank account in France (it took me 3months, my exchange was only 4) 

Hopefully my strategy guide will include the following:

-How to navigate through French universities' websites, with 50% broken links

-Actually forget the website, I'm going to include all the important deadlines & forms

-Table of equivalence from Quebec to France education system

-Glossary of all French abbreviations (Never seen so many)

-Before leaving, rendez-vous with French Embassy, more forms to be filled

But seriously, I think it's gonna be worth it all if I manage to get accepted :) :) :)

I know it must not be as complex as I make it sound, but because I don't know ANY québécois who went to study in France, I feel like a pioneer with no one to turn to for advices.  Can't imagine what it's like for someone who doesn't speak French. MAD PROPS.

Il était une fois, j'avais un gel de douche à l'odeur de cèdre et forêts, de la pluie et de la mousse.  Pendant cette époque, la douche fût pour moi une sorte de cérémonie de relaxation, je m'imaginais que si les elfes et autres créatures des bois devaient se laver, ça aurait certainement été avec ce gel douche.

Puis vint le jour où ma bouteille s'épuisa et se fit jeter par le reine du royaume, ma mère, et avec ma mémoire d'adolescente je n'arrivais plus à me souvenir de la marque.   *insérer beaucoup de jurons québécois*

Bling Bling

The newest addition to my growing collection of rings (well I can hardly call it a collection, more like a small family??) is a gold hammered V ring. 

I'm oddly attracted to thin & dainty rings with the smallest details instead of the colorful gems and the big blings.  There can be so much beauty contained in a small frame.

The V reminds of the SAILOR MOON TIARA.

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect wood branch/twig ring.  Des fois j'ai quelque chose de très spécifique en tête et ma quête ne finit pas tant que j'ai pas trouvé l'objet correspondant 100% à cette idée. 1. I had my most spontaneous online purchase yesterday. Spontaneous as in decision making + taking out credit card within 5 minutes. 2. STAR WARS 3D is playing in theatres in Montreal and no one bothered to invite me on a date to go see it?!!   I'm ashamed to say that I've never watched the Phantom Menace.  Now's my chance!!
